Help Your Child Work Through
Difficult Situations
&
Curb Behavior Problems with Play Therapy
What is Play Therapy?
Play is the language of the child. Play therapy is the therapy that allows a child to ‘speak’ about his or her struggles in their language. Using play therapy models such as child-centered or sand play, the child can share about their thoughts and feelings using the language of play. Experiential Play Therapy®, developed by Drs. Byron and Carol Norton, is a specialized model of play therapy that allows a child not only to share their thoughts and feelings, but to reprocess their thoughts and feelings. Experiential Play Therapy® is a non-directive approach which creates a therapeutic environment where the child will be able to begin gaining an understanding of their struggles as well as gain empowerment to face those struggles, resulting in a decrease of symptoms. This specialized approach is particularly effective for children working through trauma, attachment/adoption, and loss.
How Will Play Therapy Benefit My Child?
Experiential Play Therapy® is an effective intervention with children for a variety of behavioral and emotional difficulties for children ages 18 months to 12 years. Examples of issues children may come to therapy for include anger management, grief and loss, divorce and family dissolution, and crisis/trauma, as well as modification of emotional / behavioral disorders such as anxiety, depression, attention deficit hyperactivity (ADHD), academic and social development, physical and learning processes. The therapist will work with the family to reduce or eliminate behavior problems, enhance the relationship between the parent and child, and develop responsibility and self-control in their child. The Clinic for Christian Counseling, LLC currently offers one of the select few therapists in the local area who are Registered Play Therapists - Supervisors that have been trained in Experiential Play Therapy®.
